Sod Installation in Daytona Beach
We clear out the tired lawn, fix the grade, and lay fresh sod with tight, staggered seams so it roots evenly instead of browning at the edges. You get a full, green yard in a day and clear instructions for the weeks after.
A new lawn that roots in and stays
New sod looks perfect the day it goes down. Whether it still looks good months later depends on the work nobody sees: how well the old turf was removed, how the soil was leveled, and how tightly each piece meets the next. We take our time on those parts because they decide how long your lawn lasts.
Sod is the right call when the existing grass is too thin, weedy or bug-damaged to bring back with regular lawn care, or when you have bare ground after construction, a tree removal or a drainage fix. In sandy Florida soil, a properly laid lawn of St. Augustine, Zoysia or Bahia can spread its roots and knit together within a few weeks of warm weather.
What our sod installation includes
Removing the old lawn
We cut out the existing turf and roots instead of laying new sod over old grass. Dead thatch left underneath keeps new roots from reaching the soil.
Grading and soil prep
We rake the area level, fill low spots and slope the ground gently away from your home so water drains instead of pooling against the foundation. Where the sand is very poor, we work in soil amendment before anything goes down.
Matching grass to your yard
Floratam St. Augustine handles full sun, other St. Augustine types and Zoysia do better with some shade, and Bahia suits large, low-maintenance areas. Before recommending one, we note how many hours of direct light each part of the lawn gets and where kids or dogs tend to run.
Snug, offset joints
We shift each row so the short ends never line up with the row beside it, and we butt every edge firmly against its neighbor without stretching the piece. Open joints dry out, brown off and give weeds an easy place to start.
Clean cuts and edges
We trim pieces to fit along driveways, walks and beds so there are no thin slivers that dry out and die back.
Rolling and first watering
We roll the finished lawn to press roots against the soil, then soak it before we leave. You get a written watering schedule for the weeks ahead.

Signs your yard is ready for new sod
- Bare or thinning patches
- If more than a third of the lawn is thin or bare, reseeding and fertilizer rarely catch up. Fresh sod gets you a full lawn at once.
- Chinch bug or grub damage
- Large, spreading dead areas in St. Augustine often mean pests have killed the roots. Once the cause is treated, replacing the damaged turf is usually faster than waiting for it to recover.
- Weeds have taken over
- When crabgrass, dollarweed or sedge outnumber the grass, starting fresh is often the cleaner answer.
- Puddles and low spots
- Standing water after summer storms means the grade needs work. We fix the ground first, then lay sod over it.
- Grass that fights the shade
- If trees have grown and your sun-loving grass keeps thinning beneath them, a more shade-tolerant variety can solve the problem for good.
How a sod job runs
- 1
Walkthrough and estimate
We come out to your home, measure the lawn, note where water collects and which spots stay shaded, and run your sprinklers to see what they actually reach. You get a clear written estimate and an honest opinion on whether sod is needed at all.
- 2
Scheduling fresh sod
We order the sod to arrive the day we lay it. Pallets left sitting in the heat start to yellow within a day, so timing matters.
- 3
Prep day
The crew removes the old turf, grades and levels the soil, and marks any sprinkler heads so nothing gets buried or broken.
- 4
Laying and rolling
We lay the sod in a staggered pattern, cut the edges clean, roll it and water it thoroughly. Most average yards are finished in one day.
- 5
Cleanup and aftercare
We haul off old turf and scraps and sweep hard surfaces. Before we leave, we walk you through how often to water and when the first mowing should happen.
What affects the cost of new sod
Every yard is priced on its own after we see it in person. The estimate lists each part of the job so you know where the money goes. If you would rather spread the cost out, our financing reaches up to $100,000, on 2–12-year terms, and paying it off early carries no penalty.
- Square footage
- Sod is sold by the pallet, so the size of the area is the biggest driver.
- Grass variety
- Zoysia and specialty St. Augustine types cost more than Bahia or Floratam.
- Removal and grading
- Thick old turf, roots, or a yard that needs real leveling adds labor and sometimes added soil.
- Access
- Narrow side gates or backyards with no equipment access mean more work by hand.
- Irrigation fixes
- If sprinkler heads need moving or replacing to cover the new lawn, we include that as its own line on the estimate.
Sod installation questions
- When is it safe to walk on my new lawn?
- Give it roughly two weeks of very light use so the roots can anchor into the soil underneath. After that, pets and kids can go out on it gently. Save soccer games and heavy play until the lawn has been mowed a couple of times.
- How much should I water new sod?
- Plan on short waterings once or twice a day for the first week or two, then taper to less frequent, deeper watering. We leave you a written schedule. Check your local watering rules, since new sod often gets extra allowance during establishment.
- When can I mow it the first time?
- Usually after two to three weeks, once a gentle tug on a corner shows the roots are holding. Set the mower high for the first few cuts.
- Which months work best for laying sod in Daytona Beach?
- Warm-season grasses put down roots fastest when the soil is warm, so the stretch from spring into early fall gives the quickest results. We can still lay sod in the cooler months. It just takes longer to anchor and needs closer attention to watering.
- Do I need a sprinkler system for new sod?
- It helps a lot, but it is not required for small areas you can hand water. If you have a system, we check its coverage first, and our irrigation service can fix any dry spots before the sod goes in.
